Learn to paint
If you live in or around the Battle area and would like to learn to paint we offer a variety of beginners art classes. Our classes range from 1 day art classes to 6 week art classes. We can also offer bespoke art courses to home in on specific skills such as faces. clouds, leaves, sea and grasses.
Our relaxed and friendly studio near Battle provides everything you need to start learning to paint.
Battle Art Classes
No matter your ability we will guide you through the techniques you need to paint. Whether it’s just a one-off art class to try it out or your new passion Sue will be on hand with loads of help and support.
Battle art classes are designed for both beginners and more advanced artists who wish to develop their art skills. I find that even the most nervous of individuals will quickly realise that they can paint beyond their expectations.

Sue is a very talented artist; her work is amazing and the oil painting of my fox-red lab, Basil, is no exception. The attention to detail is fantastic, she has really captured his character and expression all set against the stunning backdrop of bluebells in flower carpeting the woods at Eridge Rocks.This special picture is hung in my dining room and will be treasured for many years to come… and my children are already arguing over who will inherit it!

Sue is a patient and encouraging teacher, who gives her students the individual guidance and attention they need. I went on her course with a friend to learn how to paint with oils, and Sue taught us everything from what materials and brands to use, to creative painting techniques, to proper brush care - everything you need to know in order to set yourself up as an artist. We had a wonderful day, and both came away thrilled with the piece we had produced. I'll definitely be going to her classes again.

My husband and I attended one of Sue’s one-day oil painting courses and had the most fantastic day. Sue has a lovely studio in a really beautiful setting. My husband is a very good pencil artist but has never really tried his hand at painting, and, as for me, I’m almost a complete art novice! Sue is an amazing teacher though, really patient and takes time to explain every step. She is really encouraging and will go over something until you are happy that you have ‘got it’. It was lovely spending time in Sue’s company and I don’t think either my husband or I dared to dream that we would produce anything anywhere near as good as what we came away with. Sue also provided a lovely lunch and the tea and biscuits were also very welcome. We are already each thinking about a bigger project that we can work on with Sue’s guidance. We cannot recommend Sue’s courses highly enough.
